CLUB TRAINER GETS OFF TO GOOD START IN 2012

Trainer Stuart Williams has started the new year in fine form, with five winners in the first three weeks of the year, resulting in a remarkable 28% strike rate so far.The club's two three year-olds will not be adding to these statistics as yet, but steady progress is being made by both VENETIAS DREAM and PRINCELY SUM.

With both horses fully syndicated, we are currently looking to see if there is sufficient interest to add a third horse for the season.

27.12.2011

NEW SYNDICATE FULLY SUBSCRIBED

The two year-old colt PRINCELY SUM which was purchased at the Tattersalls Horses In Training Sales has proved to be a popular choice with club shareholders as the final share was snapped up just prior to the Christmas break.  The colt has made steady progress under trainer Stuart Williams' watchful eye since coming into his yard, and we look forward to his club debut in the New Year.

GREAT LEIGHS RACECOURSE PLANS

The news we were all waiting to hear was announced today when the Racing Post reported that contracts had been exchanged for Great Leighs Racecourse to be sold to MC Racetracks Ltd who intend to complete the development of the facilities and seek a new racing licence from the BHA.  A lot of work still has to be done before any racing can re-commence, but at least the future of the racecourse, which has been closed for almost three years, now seems secure.

Both BBC Radio Essex and AtTheRaces television have conducted interviews with the Club Manager asking for reaction to the news.

MEMBERS ENJOY STABLE VISIT TO STUART WILLIAMS' DIOMED STABLES

The weather was ideal for the Stable Visit to Stuart Williams' Diomed Stables on Saturday when Members saw our new two year-old colt PRINCELY SUM for the first time, as well as the two year-old filly VENETIAS DREAM and DREAMACHA. Coffee and sausage rolls were served in the owners' lounge by Joan upon arrival and after an initial viewing and chat to our trainer, we had a look round the stable facilities after which there was a trip to the sunny Cambridge Road gallops to see the horses at work.  A particularly impressive gallop by Princely Sum had everyone full of admiration for our exciting prospect for 2012.

TWO YEAR-OLD PURCHASE MADE AT TATTERSALLS

Manager Barry Root was in action at Tattersalls Autumn Horses In Training Sale today and secured the purchase of an interesting two year-old colt to run in the Club's colours in the coming year, when PRINCELY SUM, who was fifth in his only start in a Maiden race at Doncaster last Saturday, was bought through trainer Stuart Williams.

NO SUCCESS FOR DREAMACHA IN BIG DONCASTER HANDICAP

There was to be no follow-up to the excellent run in Germany last time as Dreamacha was unable to get amongst the prize money in a tough, 22 runner handicap at Doncaster's Racing Post Trophy meeting today.

Drawn in stall 20, she was unable to get away at the same hectic pace as the main pack, and chose to race alongside two lone runners on the near rail early on, but having chosen to move inside towards the main group of runners, jockey William Carson was unable to get any run of note so our filly made little impression on the front runners in a race in which the first four home were all sent off at high odds.

FURTHER FRENCH TRIP ON THE CARDS FOR 2012

Following the success of the Club's trip to Chantilly, France in July, arrangements were being made in Deauville this week for next year's overseas trip to the racing town and popular resort, which is also the venue for the top French horse sales, including this week's yearling sales.

The likely hotel for the stay and restaurants awaiting our valued custom were inspected in between a busy sales week, when arrangements for the Club's proposed venture into racing in France were also dscussed.

More details about the trip will be available soon.

BOOGIE BOUNCES BACK TO FORM WITH SECOND PLACE AT LINGFIELD

A return to form for Boogie Waltzer almost saw her grab a win in dramatic style at Lingfield Park today as a late burst to the line saw her just pipped by Absa Lutte by a neck, to finish in second place.  The filly had got off to a good start from her draw in stall six and she sat just behind the leaders handily placed but at the home turn she was forced wide and got outpaced for just a stride or two before closing in with a strong run in the final furlong under jockey James Doyle all the way to the line, just failing in a photo finish.

BRAVE EFFORT JUST FAILS TO GET BLACK TYPE SUCCESS

Although the records will show that DREAMACHA finished fifth in her attempt at a Listed Race at Cologne today, the fact that she came within a whisker of getting at least a place will not be appreciated.  Only three quarters of a length separated the first five home in a thrilling finish at a sun-drenched Cologne, with our filly, who even led as the runners hit the furlong pole, being adjudged in fifth place behind the surprise winner Birthday Lion, sent off at odds of almost 20/1. It would have surprised nobody if the photo finish had declared her to be third at least, but it was not to be.

Dreamacha had started the race as 7/2 favourite despite the lack of a recent run, and jockey William Carson was always handily placed when well into the home straight a big gap appeared up the centre as the horses split and Dreamacha set off in a bold run to get to the front, just failing to hold on in the final strides as the first five home went past together.

A thrilling finish without the result we hoped for but nevertheless an exciting and enjoyable trip which almost proved to be ideal, possibly the missed race a couple of weeks ago just contributing to the slightest lack of fitness to see the race out.

The full race record can be seen if you click here.

NOTE - a sincere thank you is due to those Members who kindly offered to contribute to the additional costs of this race, which is very much appreciated.

DREAMACHA DECLARED FOR LISTED RACE IN COLOGNE

Dreamacha makes the step up to Listed Class on Monday with a trip to Cologne for the 5 furlong Kolner Herbst Sprint as she attempts to gain some black-type in her pedigree.  Any Member requiring details of travel arrangements for the trip to see her race should contact the Manager as quickly as possible.

THIRD PLACE FOR BOOGIE WALTZER AT GOODWOOD

With two runners being withdrawn, this five furlong contest was reduced to six runners in soft conditions at Goodwood, and Boogie Waltzer showed much of her old fighting spirit with an improved run under Ryan Clark.  The filly got off to a good start and initially ran alone in the middle of the track, looking for the better ground, and went into an early lead, only just being unable to hold on at the finish as the favourite Mata Hari Blue came through to win, with Boogie edged out into third place.  Only a distance of about a length and a half separated her from the winner at the line, and with a little more luck we could have been collecting the silverware, but she has put the two bad runs behind her and could get back to winning ways again.

The full race record can be seen if you click here.

NIGHT AT THE OPERA AND STABLE VISIT

The Animal Health Trust "Night at the Opera" at Tattersalls was a delightful experience at what is normally the horse auctions auditorium, with The London Opera providing first class entertainment on Friday evening, and this was followed by a visit to Stuart Williams' stables on Saturday morning.  Boogie Waltzer had already been for her morning excercise, but Dreamacha did a good piece of fast work on the Cambridge Road Gallops under jockey Ryan Clark.  A stronger-looking Venetias Dream also made a brief appearance for those Members attending, and she is currently undergoing her regular cantering as she builds up her fitness.

BOOGIE WALTZER OUT OF LUCK AT SANDOWN

After a couple of ventures at northern racetracks, Boogie Waltzer looked well suited to give a good show at Sandown Park today in another five furlong handicap with a climb to the finishing line, but after an excellent break from her stall three and the securing of the rails running position, she fell away to finish in ninth position.

Jockey Ryan Clark said the filly travelled well early on and ran honestly enough off her handicap rating of 72, but just lacked the speed in the final furlong or so to keep with the leaders, all of which were a few pounds in hand at the weights in this race, including the 20/1 winner Rafaaf, and who generally favoured the middle of the track.  The full result can be seen if you click here.

27.8.2011

BOOGIE WALTZER UNPLACED AT BEVERLEY

Conditions looked to have been changing in our favour at Beverley today but with the runners in this five furlong handicap moving across to the stands rail, Boogie Waltzer, having shown early speed in the race getting into a useful position despite being drawn towards the outside of the pack, was unable to sustain her challenge up the hill to the finish and trailed in at the rear of the nine runners. The full result can be seen if you click here.

MEMBERS ENJOY CHANTILLY TRIP REUNION EVENING AND STABLE VISIT

A drinks evening and a meal at The Ormonde Restaurant at Newmarket preceded a dvd presentation of the recent Chantilly Trip for around 16 Members on Friday.  The presentation comprised both still photos and video taken by Barry and Joan Root over the fun-packed weekend at the beginning of July, and many laughs were had when all was revealed.  Saturday morning breakfast was followed by a visit to Stuart Williams' stables and a viewing of Boogie Waltzer and Dreamacha on the Warren Hill Gallops.

ATTEMPTED NORTHERN RAID PRODUCES THIRD PLACE FOR BOOGIE

Boogie Waltzer ran another solid race at Thirsk this afternoon but was just unable to get to the front despite a handy draw on the rails in this five furlong handicap, finishing third to Magical Macey after eventually being sent off 4/1 favourite. Possibly a stronger early pace may have helped, but the filly gave her usual consistent effort under jockey Ryan Clark to add another place in her performances for the Club, and was beaten by 2 lengths.

GOOD EFFORT FROM BOOGIE WALTZER AT GLORIOUS GOODWOOD

Another good effort from our four year-old at Goodwood today resulted in only just over a length separating the winner Secret Asset from the next five runners, with the Club filly being adjudged in fifth place in this five furlong sprint on what was slightly faster ground than ideal.  Although outpaced early on from the wide outside draw, Boogie Waltzer's jockey Harry Bentley gave her a fine ride and made good progress in the last furlong, with only a head separating her from the place money at the finish.  Click here to see the full result.

SUPER DAY AT HIGHGROUNDS STUD INCLUDES BBQ

Around 35 people attended the visit to Merv and Carol Ayers' Highgrounds Stud on Sunday and were treated to a super BBQ in the sunshine by our hosts. A tour of the paddocks to see the mares and foals - two nice colts to be targetted at the Tattersalls Foal Sales being the highlight - in the company of Merv followed a welcome reception drink, and then a relaxing afternoon meant enjoying some super food served up by Carol. Junior Members Lily and Georgina met for the first time and were soon enjoying each other's company, especially on the quad bike!

BOOGIE PIPPED ON THE LINE FOR ANOTHER 2ND AT EPSOM

With the recent rain creating soft conditions underfoot, Boogie Waltzer ran another honest race over five furlongs at Epsom this evening, only just failing to hang on to the lead she had taken a furlong or so out under jockey Ryan Clark. This was another good effort from the filly but as she left just enough space up the stands rail, Living It Large was able to come through right at the end to take the honours.  Click here for the full result.

CHANTILLY TRIP A RESOUNDING SUCCESS

Sixteen Members made the trip to Chantilly, France on Friday and enjoyed an action-packed weekend which included a dinner hosted at the Dolce Hotel, visits to the Chantilly Training Centre and racehorse trainer Pascal Bary's stables, a tour of the famous chateau and horse museum, racing at Chantilly on Sunday and a visit to Crystal D'Arques factory on the way home. Much excellent French food and wine was consumed during the stay, which came to a close far too quickly for most - so the plans for next year's trip are already in hand!

28.6.2011

SECOND PLACE FOR BOOGIE WALTZER AT SOUTHWELL

There were no stalls problems for Boogie Waltzer this time around, as the filly almost got home in an exciting finish in her five furlong race this evening, eventually missing out by a neck as she crossed the line with Sleepy Blue Ocean.  Jockey Ryan Clark worked hard to get the four year-old into a challenging position in the home straight from his inside draw but had to settle for second place despite a fine effort.

BRILLIANT DREAMACHA DOES IT AGAIN IN STYLE

A dazzling performance under an excellent ride by Ryan Clark saw DREAMACHA follow up her Lingfield success with another superb win at Leicester this evening, her fifth success from fifteen races.  The filly, sent off at 9/4 after a slight drift in the market, settled well and was cruising just behind the leaders when they reached the furlong post, but quickened up when asked to go on and won easily by two lengths. Much celebration then followed by those in attendance!

BOOGIE WALTZER WITHDRAWN AT SANDOWN

Boogie Waltzer burst from the stalls ahead of the start of her planned race at Sandown this afternoon when appearing to be startled by another horse entering the adjoining stall, and so had to be withdrawn from the race.  There was no injury caused to  either the filly or jockey Ryan Clark.

DERBY DAY SMILES AS DREAMACHA STORMS HOME AT LINGFIELD

Afternoon attention was clearly focused on the Royal runner in The Derby at Epsom, but it was the Club's DREAMACHA which brought smiles to the faces of Club Members during the evening when she stormed home to win the 5 furlong sprint at  sunny Lingfield Park.

Give a great start from stall six by jockey Toby Atkinson, the filly got quickly across to the standside rails and settled in fourth place early on, and despite an initial brief traffic problem whilst waiting for space to appear, she showed a great turn of foot just after the furlong post to romp home by two and a half lengths, with the favourite Queen Grace well beaten into third place.

FOURTH PLACE FOR DREAMACHA AT LEICESTER

Conditions underfoot changed considerably at a miserable and wet Leicester Bank Holiday Monday, with DREAMACHA running another genuine race, just failing to get the seven furlong trip, finishing fourth to Russian Rave after taking the lead up the stand-side rails three furlongs out.

She had been kept on the rails by jockey James Doyle early on but possibly hit the front sooner than had been expected, and drifting across into the centre of the track two furlongs out, could not quite maintain her strong effort to the line as the fast finishing Russian Rave and Bonnie Brae took over.

The full race record can be seen if you click here.

MEMBER APPOINTED TOWN MAYOR

We offer our congratulations to Member Neil Ward upon his recent appointment to the position of Mayor of Wymondham. This will no doubt mean an extremely busy year ahead for Neil, but hopefully he will still find time to serve the best coffee available at Yarmouth Racecourse during the season!

HORSES RETURN TO GREAT LEIGHS RACECOURSE

BUT MYSTERY RULES

Racehorses appeared on the Great Leighs race track yesterday when six racehorses and four Newmarket trainers - Luca Cumani, Chris Wall, Stuart Williams and Phil McEntee- made a surprise visit to test out the Polytrack surface, which had lay dormant since the Racecourse went into Administration in January 2009.  A report in the Racing Post states that no details about possible new ownership were made available at the time, although recently-reported interest from racehorse owner and Eddie Stobart Group Chief Executive Andrew Tinkler appears to have no foundation.

BOOGIE'S SECOND RUN BRINGS A THIRD PLACE AT KEMPTON

Having just her second run in the Club's colours, our four year-old BOOGIE WALTZER ran a creditable race at Kempton this evening, featuring in a close finish for the places, eventually earning a dead-heat third place at 25/1 behind the winning favourite Kylladdie.

The full race result can be seen if you click here.

SLOW START SEES DREAMACHA UNPLACED AT NEWMARKET

Dreamacha's slow start out of the stalls was enough to stop her from getting into the prize money at a sunny and dry Newmarket evening meeting in the Apprentices Handicap under jockey Noel Garbutt.

The filly was therefore racing from too distant a position from early on and although travelling well and running on in the final furlong, could make no impression on the hot favourite Collect Art, the 11/8 winner, and was beaten about six lengths.

The full race record can be seen if you click here.

JAZZ EVENING AT LINGFIELD RACES

After racing Jazz from the famous Ronnie Scott Jazz Band will feature at Lingfield Park's Saturday 18th June race meeting, and the Club has included this on the list of social events for the summer season.

Anyone wishing to attend, whether or not we have a runner on the evening, should see the link on our Events & Hospitality page for details.

2.5.2011

BOOGIE WALTZER UNPLACED IN FIRST RUN OF THE SEASON

The Club's first sight of Boogie Waltzer on the track this season confirmed that the filly was in need of a race following her long break, as she finished seventh of the seven runners in the six furlong handicap on the all weather track at Kempton.  Running off a handicap mark of 72 she was within sight of the leaders early on but as the pace quickened she was unable to keep with them and eventually finished well behind the 83 rated winner Ray of Joy.

EXCITING FINISH BRINGS A 2ND FOR DREAMACHA

Having her first start for three months, Dreamacha almost added to her January success in a close-run race at Redcar in this her first attempt at the minimum distance, just failing to hold off the late burst from Dispol Kylie to finish second at 9/2.

She was always in touch just off the pace, and taking the lead in the final furlong, had the beating of race favourite Carrie's Magic, but a strong run from the 63-rated 8/1 shot saw Dispol Kylie just get ahead in the last strides.

This was a good performance with jockey Jack Doyle unlucky not to have ridden his first winner in the club's colours.

MEMBERS RACING TRIP TO CHANTILLY FULLY BOOKED

Now less than three months away, the planned racing weekend at Chantilly, France on 1st July is now fully booked.  With accomodation, restaurants, stable visit, race day and museum tour all confirmed, all that remains is for Manager Barry Root to ensure the French weather is up to expectations for the four-day trip.

The trip is just one of a number of social events lined up for the current year, a list of which can be seen on the Events & Hospitality page.  On Wednesday last a small group attended the Bob Champion Cancer Trust Aldaniti Dinner at Newmarket after day one of the Craven Meeting and enjoyed an excellent meal to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the former National Hunt jockey's famous and emotional victory in the Grand National.

SUNNY MORNING ON GALLOPS FOR CLUB HORSES

A sunny but crisp morning greeted the group of Members who made the trip to the Newmarket Gallops to see the Club's horses at work today.  Kicking off with a breakfast in Newmarket, around a dozen Members then met trainer Stuart Williams before seeing DREAMACHA, VENETIAS DREAM and BOOGIE WALTZER jockeyed up before their respective schedules on the Racecourse Side Gallops.

Jockey William Carson attended to give new two year-old VENETIAS DREAM her excercise over five furlongs on the polytrack, and the filly clearly is taking her work well.  She looks a strong sort and appeared at ease in her work.

DREAMACHA was given some quicker work as she prepares for her next effort at the races, which ought not to be too long into the new season, whilst BOOGIE WALTZER was in her early stages of work having had her winter break.

3.2.2011

NEW FILLY TAKES FIRST STEPS ONTO GALLOPS

Venetias Dream, the new two year-old that runs in our colours in 2011, took her first steps onto the Newmarket gallops this week following her period of breaking-in at trainer Stuart Williams' yard.

She  looked in good health and well-behaved as she went through  her paces alongside two further two year-old fillies that have gone into training with Stuart on a cold but dry morning on the Racecourse Gallops. She has strengthened up from the time of her purchase at Newmarket Sales in the Autumn, and showed a nice attitude under instruction.

A stable visit will be arranged in a few weeks' time to see her progress.

2.2.2011

HORSEMEN'S GROUP PUBLISH TARIFF OF PRIZE MONEY

The Racehorse Owners Association have issued  the recommended Prize Money Tariff formulated by the Horsemen's Group, which represents trainers, owners, breeders, jockeys and stable staff, setting out the minimum values that racecourses should offer for each of the different classes of races, for both Jumps and Flat Racing.

With prize money currently at unacceptably low levels, it is felt that running our horses in only races that meet the tariff will help arrest the decline and rewards racecourses which prioritise prize-money.

ENCOURAGING SUPPORT FOR FRENCH RACING TRIP

Plans are progressing nicely for our proposed racing weekend in Chantilly, France at the beginning of July, with only FOUR places left to be booked.  The trip will include Chantilly Chateau and Racing Museum Tour, a day at the races and some excellent French hospitality.  Further details can be seen on the Events & Hospitality webpage link - or contact The Manager.

10.1.2011

DREAMACHA KICKS OFF 2011 RACING YEAR IN STYLE

Sent off  as 11/10 favourite, Dreamacha put in a fine performance in her first run for around six weeks following her short winter break, by taking the 6 furlong Fillies Handicap at Wolverhampton in great style.

She was given an ideal ride by jockey Ryan Clark, who was achieving his first "double" of his riding career having won earlier in the day at the course, and won comfortably after having taken the lead with a couple of furlongs to go.

The full race record can be seen if you click here.

NORFOLK MEMBERS DINNER AND QUIZ

The Abbey at Wymondham was the venue for the Club's first Norfolk Christmas Dinner, which was arranged by Michelle Fernandes, and thoroughly enjoyed by all attending.  A video of the year's activities was shown and this was followed by Manager Barry Root's Quiz, which was eagerly contested by four teams and which resulted in a tie-break finish, with Peter Saxon's team eventually taking the honours.

Sunday morning saw a visit to Mervyn and Carol Ayers' Stud, where Boogie Waltzer was seen for the first time whilst she enjoys a short winter break before returning to trainer Stuart Williams in the New Year to run in our colours.

TIME TO BOOGIE INTO 2011 WITH CLUB'S NEW HORSE

Arrangements have been agreed by Manager Barry Root for the three year-old filly BOOGIE WALTZER to run in the Club's colours in 2011.  The filly, which has already won five races and been placed eight times in twenty-one starts with trainer Stuart Williams, and has an official turf handicap rating of 72 and all weather rating of 74, is available for Members' share purchase with immediate effect, details of which are on the Ownership Shares page of the website.

Having raced consistently fourteen times so far this year, the filly, is currently having a break from training and will resume duties for a campaign starting in the New Year.

ANNUAL DINNER PROVING POPULAR

With only a few days to go to Saturday's Club Dinner at the Harefield Manor Hotel at Romford, bookings have almost reached 50 thus making this the best-attended Annual Dinner so far.

There are, however, still places available for anyone making up their mind at the last minute - tickets are priced £32.50 per person.

Guest speaker on the evening will be Adrian McGlynn of Weatherbys.

EXCITING FINISH AS DREAMACHA IS 4TH AT LINGFIELD

Dreamacha attracted plenty of betting support for this six furlong handicap, setting off at a strong 7/4 favourite, and despite her outside draw, was only beaten by a total of a length in a close finish for the places.  She had settled on the outer just off the pace and came with a strong run in the home straight, just failing to get home as the winner came up the inside rail.

Our filly may have been just wanting that run bearing in mind her previous race was five weeks ago, and we can look forward with confidence that there is more to come from her during the winter.

The full race record can be seen if you click here.

NEW YEARLING POPULAR AS ALL AVAILABLE SHARES SOLD

In the two weeks since acquiring the yearling filly by Librettist out of Machaera at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sales, all available shares have now been reserved by Members.  A visit to the stud to see the filly prior to her being transferred to our trainer will be arranged shortly.

ARE SOLD TO RACE ABROAD

In order to comply with shareholders' agreeements, Billberry and Red Suede Shoes were entered into the Horse In Training Sale at Newmarket today and both found new owners, with Billberry heading for the Middle East and Red Suede Shoes to Germany to continue their racing careers.

Details of our forthcoming plans for club horses will be issued in due course.

BILLBERRY OFFERS HOPE BUT THEN FADES AT KEMPTON

Although initially appearing to have a much-improved start and good early run when compared with last time out, Billberry finished out of the prize money at Kempton this evening when he was unable to quicken over the last couple of furlongs.

Jockey Adam Kirby seemed well-placed and travelling well as the runners got to the home turn and briefly appeared to be heading towards the places from around mid-division, but when the pace quickened in the home straight Billberry was unable to go with them, lacking the usual sparkle we have come to expect at the end of his race, finishing back in eleventh place.

DREAMACHA'S HALF-SISTER SNAPPED UP AT TATTERSALLS YEARLING SALES

Manager Barry Root was at Tattersalls Yearling Sales this week, and purchased a yearling half-sister to Dreamacha by Darley's dual Group 1 winning stallion Librettist.  Details of the syndication arrangements will be available shortly.

VISIT TO BRITISH RACING SCHOOL AND TATTERSALLS

A group of members and guests attended Newmarket's British School of Racing to see how budding jockeys of the future are trained.  The day commenced with a hearty English Breakfast followed by conducted tour of the facilities and viewing the young international riders being put through their morning routines. This was followed by a visit to Tattersalls where yearlings were being sold - none on this occasion to any bid from our Manager, however!

DISAPPOINTING KEMPTON RUN FOR BILLBERRY

A most un-Billberry like run today at Kempton saw our five year old only beat one horse home in the seven furlong handicap, with jockey Ryan Moore stating there was none of the usual sparkle in the horse today.  Early on he was happy to settle towards the rear of the pack travelling alongside the eventual winner, Merchant of Medici, but when the horses entered the home straight, the customary Billberry burst towards the front was missing, and he was left back in 12th place at the finish.

We shall look for another race as soon as possible hopefully on his favourite Lingfield track before deciding whether a short rest might be of benefit after his busy season.

The race record can be seen if you click here.

CLUB TO HAVE PROMOTIONAL DAY AT NEWMARKET RACES

Thanks to the generosity of sponsor M D Thompson Electrical of Norwich, our Norfolk Racing Club section is to have a Promotional Day at the Newmarket Rowley Mile Racecourse on Friday 29th October.

The two mile handicap on the day will carry the Club and sponsor's joint names, and our Membership Promotional Stand will be on show to the racing public on the day as we attempt to drive up our Membership levels for the new year ahead.

ANOTHER GOOD EFFORT FOR DREAMACHA BRINGS 2ND AT LEICESTER IN HEAVY GOING

Dreamacha continued her excellent run of form with a plucky 2nd place on heavy ground at Leicester today over six furlongs.  The filly got off to a good start and as the runners split into two groups, she settled in fourth place in the far side group, which appeared to have the advantage.

A good effort up the long climb to the finish saw her just unable to quicken sufficiently to catch the winner Bathwick Xaara, with jockey William Carson stating that our filly was just beaten by the heavier than normal conditions underfoot, but nevertheless had run well.

The full race record can be seen if you click here.

CLUB GOLFERS WIN COLCHESTER UNITED FC GOLF DAY

With Colchester United FC centre-back Paul Reid as their guest, our Club golf team consisting of Manager Barry Root and member Terry Meecham and Mike Ecart took the honours at the football club's golf day at Five Lakes in Essex today by winning the Team Stableford competition.

With guest player Reid scoring a magnificent 45 points to win the individual trophy, our team rattled up a total of 128 points to win the main competition by three points, with another team representing racing club member Kevin Cain winning the morning nine hole scramble.

DREAMACHA WINS AGAIN AT WOLVERHAMPTON

Racing under a 6lb penalty for her Brighton win last week, Dreamacha continued her fine run of form to win the six furlong opener at Wolverhampton this evening , having been sent off the 100/30 favourite.

Drawn in the less-than-ideal stall one against the rails, she was happy to settle in mid-division early on but as the runners reached the home turn she was moved out by jockey William Carson as space opened in the middle of the track and she went on to win nicely by a length and a half from Equinity.

She is in great form at present and will no doubt be re-assessed again  by the official handicapper, but hopefully can continue her improvement as we head into the autumn campaign.

The full race result can be seen if you click here.

BILLBERRY 4TH AGAIN AT YARMOUTH

This was Billberry's fifth occasion finishing in fourth place in his last seven runs, and yet again he was not the luckiest horse in running at Yarmouth today.    He was squeezed from both sides a couple of furlongs out, causing him to check briefly and then as jockey Ryan Moore made his move towards the leaders, Billberry was caught on the face by the whip of the Christine Dunnett-trained Norcroft from the outside.  Despite running on well into fourth place he could not get into the place money.

The full race result can be seen if you click here.

13.9.2010

DREAMACHA SUCCESS AT BRIGHTON

Dreamacha earned a richly-deserved first success by three lengths at a wet and windy Brighton this afternoon, when ridden confidently by jockey William Carson, she swept passed the leaders about a furlong out and went on to win nicely at 4/1.  Possibly unlucky not to win last time out at the same course, she showed she had come on nicely for that race and was a worthy winner.

The filly was happy to settle towards the rear as the 16 runners set off at a decent pace and descended Brighton's hill, but as they hit the rising ground, she made good headway before getting to the front at the furlong marker, never looking likely to be caught.

The full race record can be seen if you click here.

RED SUEDE SHOES UNPLACED AT KEMPTON

Red Suede Shoes showed early promise in the Mile Claimer at Kempton, with jockey Seb Sanders settling the horse towards the outside of the runners as they set off at a good pace, and appeared to be travelling well, chasing the leading pack.  However according to the jockey the horse lost its' action early in the home straight and never recovered to get into contention again, so gradually tailed off to finish in last place.  Click here for the full race result.

1.9.2010

BRIGHTON THIRD PLACE FOR DREAMACHA

With a little more luck in running in the early stages of this 6 furlong handicap, Dreamacha may well have got a win under her belt today, but after setting off with the intention of crossing to the stands side, jockey William Carson was forced against the near rail by another horse and despite making the move across on to the better ground and running on well, she was just unable to catch the winner Mushy Peas and runner-up Via Aurelia, eventually being beaten by a length and a half.  The filly clearly had improved from the Yarmouth race, and should soon be celebrating success.

BILLBERRY FOURTH AT GOODWOOD

Billberry ran yet another solid race but was just unable to reach the places when finishing fourth at a wet and blustery Goodwood on Sunday.  He raced towards the rear early on, and possibly given too much daylight, he rallied in the final couple of furlongs to make a strong challenge behind his conqueror last time out at Newmarket, Witchry and the eventual winner The Human League, but had to be content with fourth place.  The full result can be seen here.

GOOD SUPPORT FOR CLUB DAY AT NEWMARKET

WITH EVENING BARBEQUE

Around 25 Members and guests had an enjoyable race day at Newmarket on Saturday followed by a visit to trainer Stuart Williams' stables after racing.

Club horses BILLBERRY and DREAMACHA were paraded and the group were given a tour of the yard by Stuart, where he explained his training procedures and answered numerous questions.   A splendid BBQ at The Cock Inn at Kentford rounded off the day nicely.

BILLBERRY BATTLES IN MUD FOR EXCELLENT 2ND PLACE IN NEWMARKET'S GREY HORSES RACE

Rain had fallen persistently over the past couple of days at Newmarket and so the official going for Billberry's six furlong handicap for Grey Horses was described as "soft" - but in this step-up in grade, he put in an excellent performance under jockey Cathy Gannon, coming from the back to get to within a head of the winner Witchry in an exciting finish. The run justified trainer Stuart Williams' decision to declare him in this valuable race, in which he had finished third last year.  Click here for the full race result.

A good gathering of Members braved the rain to enjoy the day as seen below.

DREAMACHA PROGRESSES WITH 3RD PLACE AT YARMOUTH

A good number of Members saw DREAMACHA  show some encouraging signs of progressing nicely when the filly finished in third place at 7/1 at Yarmouth today, improving on her three previous starts as a Maiden.

Drawn against the rails in the seven furlong handicap, she was given a fine ride by jockey William Carson, and quickened nicely when asked at around the two furlong marker.  She was just unable to run on sufficiently to reach the winner and runner-up in the closing stages however, but clearly would benefit from this run, having been out of racecourse action since the end of June.

BILLBERRY GOES CLOSE AT LINGFIELD

Back on his favourite all weather surface, BILLBERRY  showed much of his old form when finishing 4th only half a length back from the winner in this seven furlong handicap at Lingfield on Saturday.  He had stayed in the back trio of horses from the start but in the home straight made a powerful run, choosing to come on the outside, just failing to get into the prizes despite the efforts of jockey George Baker, as the 2nd, 3rd and 4th horses went across the line together.  He now heads for the Grey Horses handicap at Newmarket.

YARMOUTH PROMOTIONAL DAY ROUNDS OFF WITH A 2ND PLACE FOR MYMATEERIC

The Norfolk Club's second membership promotional day at Yarmouth racecourse was kindly supported by sponsors in each of the seven races on the day, and after they had enjoyed afternoon tea in the Club hospitality box, Members were able to see their leased horse MYMATEERIC earn a well-deserved second place in the final race of the afternoon.  This race was kindly sponsored by club member Keith Loads.

The four year-old was given a fine ride by Richard Mullen, initially settling in sixth place alongside the eventual winner Fuzzypeg, and as the runners hit the final furlong Mymateeric challenged for the lead, only to be just held off by a neck at the finish.

CLUB FIRST AS MERCHANDISE SPOTTED AT LADIES PGA

OPEN GOLF AT ROYAL BIRKDALE!

It wasn't only the superb lady golfers that were on show at the Ladies British Open Golf at Royal Birkdale over the weekend, but spotted in the crowd were spectators proudly displaying Club merchandise! Cameras zoomed in to the individuals concerned in front of the leader-board and also alongside the par-three 14th hole at the Lancashire course, the event being won by Taiwan's Yani Tseng. Our North-West reporter was unable, however, to get any comments from the two golfing spectators as to what the Racing Club was all about.

SUNDAY LUNCH A HIT IN RURAL NORFOLK

A group of 16 Members and friends made the trip to Heydon on Sunday and enjoyed a super roast lunch at the racing-themed Earle Arms.  Situated in one of the only "no through-road" villages in the country, this was a lovely venue for a relaxing Sunday afternoon.  A presentation was made on the day by Manager Barry Root to Michelle Fernandes for her contribution towards new member recruitment under the Club's "Member for Member Scheme".

FURTHER REDUCTIONS IN LEVY MEANS PRIZE MONEY  HIT

With the Levy Board announcing this week even further reductions of 26% in the amount to be spent on racing in 2011, we can expect even less prize money to be available in the coming year than the present miserable levels.

With the suggestion of a number of fixture reductions too, things do not look good for the racing industry, particularly as the amount of money that racing regards as a reasonable return from betting through the levy, and the sum that bookmakers are looking to pay, growing wider than ever.

The Club will be preparing its' own financial estimates for 2011 soon.

DIARY DATE FOR CLUB ANNUAL DINNER

This year's Annual Dinner will be held on Saturday 20 November at the Harefield Manor Hotel in Romford, Essex, so make a note of this date so that as soon as final details are published, you can reserve your places! Guests are welcome to this event as usual.

The evening will include a drinks reception in the hotel's "Henry Cecil Bar", a three-course dinner, and a guest racing personality attendance.

RETURN TO ALL-WEATHER SURFACE DOES NOTHING FOR RED SUEDE SHOES

The return to the track where he enjoyed much success last season was not the answer to improved performance for Red Suede Shoes this time, as he finished last in the mile handicap at Kempton Park.

He started well enough and looked to have been given an ideal ride into a favourable position by jockey Saleem Golan, but tailed off badly in the run to the finish.  Trainer Jeff Pearce has arranged to have him checked-out thoroughly back at the stables as this was nothing like the horse we know.

The full result of the race this evening can be seen here.

DREAMACHA HAS THIRD RUN AND QUALIFIES FOR HANDICAPS

A hot afternoon beside the River Thames was an undoubted better option than being in front of the TV watching England's feeble effort in the World Cup, and although Dreamacha was never in contention in this one mile Maiden race, she will have benefitted from this run-out after a short lay-off following her minor surgery, and we can now look forward to her performing in handicaps once she has been given her official handicap rating.

She finished in seventh place but jockey Saleem Golan felt she had given a fair account in the circumstances, stating that she would come on for this race, which was on good to firm ground today.

SPONSORS REQUIRED FOR YARMOUTH RACE DAY

Thursday 5th August is the second of the NORFOLK RACING CLUB promotional race days at Yarmouth Racecourse (following the launch day on 21 May), and we need a few more race sponsors to finalise the day.  Anyone prepared to support the day for a heavily-discounted sponsorship fee should contact Barry Root as soon as possible. Optional hospitality facilities are also available for all sponsors.

It is hoped that the Club will have a Members hospitality facility as last time.

ROYAL ASCOT A NO-GO FOR CLUB MEMBERS

This year's Royal Ascot Club Picnic Day was a no-show for Club Members and friends this year, with only the Manager and Events Secretary with their respective partners in attendance at the picnic on the Wednesday this year.  This was a real disappointment considering around 40 Members and friends attended in 2008.

Our next club social event is the Greyhound Racing Evening at Romford on 9th July.

BILLBERRY TURF WIN ELUDES HIM

Only just over a length separated Billberry in sixth place and the winner Piccolo Express, a 16/1 outsider, in today's seven furlong contest at sunny Warwick.  Set off at 3/1 favourite after some market support,, jockey George Baker got him nicely settled early on but he was unable to make sufficient progress to get in to the places despite a strong run up the home straight, running on well and only a length short of success at the end.

The full race record can be seen if you click here.

SOLID RUN GETS BILLBERRY FOURTH PLACE AT LINGFIELD

Another solid performance from Billberry at Lingfield saw him just fail to get into the major places in this seven furlong 0 - 70 handicap on the turf straight on Saturday. He waited patiently in the early stages as For Life set off at a good pace up front and when the horses headed into the last furlong he made his effort on the outside, but the 70 rated joint favourite Space Station showed a good turn of foot to get the opening required up the stand rails to go on and win nicely, with Billberry about five lengths back at the finish.

NO LUCK FOR CHANDRAYAAN IN FINAL RUN

Chandrayaan was unable to improve on his recent encouraging Salisbury run when stepping up to a mile in his last race for the club at Great Yarmouth today, eventually finishing eighth after an untidy race which saw him bumped off his stride when looking to be in a challenging position about a furlong out.  He had settled in about fifth place early on from his wide draw appearing to be travelling well, despite a slight stumble at one point early on, but was unable to recover from a collision sufficiently to make an impact on the result and so moved on to his new owner without a win during his time wearing our colours.

29.5.2010 VISIT TO TRAINER JEFF PEARCE AT NEWMARKET

The weather stayed fair for the morning visit to trainer Jeff Pearce's Wroughton House Stables when 22 members and guests enjoyed meeting Jeff and his team, as well as seeing RED SUEDE SHOES at work on Warren Hill.  A thoroughly enjoyable morning included a tour of the stables and adjoining facilities, "star" watching on Warren Hill as a host of Newmarket's larger yards' horses did their stuff up the gallops before our four year-old did two pieces of nice work.  A lunch at the Horseracing Museum followed, and a few braved it to a rather a wet Rowley Mile racecourse in the afternoon.

NORFOLK MEMBERS SIGN UP FOLLOWING CLUB LAUNCH

There has been encouraging support for the new NORFOLK RACING CLUB section with twenty new members joining as a result of the launch of the Club at Yarmouth Racecourse on Friday last. There will be further membership promotion at the forthcoming Yarmouth race meetings in June as we strive to get numbers up overall to an acceptable level.

24.5.2010

BILLBERRY FOURTH AT LEICESTER AS TURF WIN ELUDES HIM

Another solid run from Billberry got him a fourth place at Leicester today in a race which threw up a few surprises with the fancied horses, Billberry included, running in the centre of the track, being outpaced by those, including outsiders on paper, running up the stands rail.  From his stall four draw, jockey Ryan Clark took Billberry towards the outside of the pack, tracking the favourite Plutocraft early on, but although running on at the finish, he was clearly not up with the faster group standside and so had to be content with a minor place.

The full result can be seen if you click here.

SECOND AND THIRD FOR CLUB HORSES ON LAUNCH DAY

A sun-drenched Great Yarmouth contributed to a highly successful launch of our NORFOLK RACING CLUB and a second place for WRENINGHAM and third for DAZZLING BEGUM gave our fifty or so members and guests something to cheer about.  Wreningham had been well-backed in the run up to the start but could not hold off the fast finishing Solemn, and the Jeff Pearce trained Dazzling Begum finished well to get third place after being stuck behind horses at the crucial time, running on well and almost getting to the winner and runner up.The Club is extremely grateful to the horses' owners for allowing us to lease them on the day, as well as the seven race sponsors who kindly supported the day.

19.5.2010

LEASED HORSES DECLARED TO RUN ON CLUB RACE DAY

Thanks to the co-operation of trainers Jeff Pearce and Stuart Williams, and their respective racehorse owners, we shall have two horses running in the Club colours at Yarmouth on Friday.  Handicappers Dazzling Begum and Wreningham will line up in their respective races representing Essex and Norfolk Racing Clubs, adding to the enjoyment of our sponsored and new club launch day, the plans for which have gone extremely well.

A huge amount of work has been put in by Members Michelle Fernandes and Neil Ward and we are hugely grateful to them both for all they have done in making the day a success.

18.5.2010

ALL  RACES SPONSORED AT NEW CLUB RACE DAY

Friday's race meeting at Great Yarmouth, where our associate Norfolk Racing Club will officially be launched, has proved a big hit from the race sponsorship point of view, with all seven races quickly sold out.  Furthermore around fifty potential new Members and guestsare expected to attend the race meeting, with many taking up the excellent value Hospitality Box package whereby entrance badge and a buffet lunch can be obtained for £15 per person.

Manager Barry Root is still hoping to have a horse running on the day in the Club's colours to add to the excitement, meanwhile plans for a repeat day in August are already under way.

13.5.2010

MUCH IMPROVED CHANDRAYAAN GETS THIRD PLACE AT SALISBURY

Chandrayaan ran a much improved race in a competitive Claimer at Salisbury today, running on well to finish third place at odds of 50/1 behind the favouriteThrust Control, who was rated 78 compared with our three year-old's 59.

The race was run at a decent pace and jockey Sam Hitchcott got a good break to sit in third place against the rails early on but slipped back from this early promising position, appearing to be outpaced, but then rallied strongly in the last furlong showing a good turn of foot to get third place comfortably.

The full race record can be seen if you click here.

8.5.2010

LAUNCH OF NEW NORFOLK RACING CLUB

In an effort to recruit new Members and shareholders from the East Anglia region, Manager Barry Root is launching the NORFOLK RACING CLUB on 21 May at Yarmouth Racecourse.

The new Club will run alongside the existing Club and will share in the interest of the current horses in training.  The race day at Yarmouth provides an opportunity for any organisations interested in sponsoring a race on the day to do so at a hugely discounted price, and there will also be Private Box hospitality packages available for Members, sponsors and their guests. ALL RACES ARE NOW SPONSORED.

8.5.2010

NEWMARKET STABLE VISIT PLANNED

Saturday 29th May has been arranged as the date for the Club's visit to the Newmarket yard of trainer Jeff Pearce, where an opportunity will be available to see RED SUEDE SHOES following his recent transfer there.  Starting at 9am, Members will meet Jeff and his team and see his facilities, and be able to see Red Suede Shoes at work on the training gallops.  A luncheon in Newmarket followed by optional afternoon racing at the Rowley Mile Racecourse will follow.

27.4.2010

CHANDRAYAAN STAYS WITH US A LITTLE LONGER

Running in the Claimer at Lingfield today failed to achieve the desired result for Chandrayaan, who once again didn't have the best of starts coming out of the stalls, eventually finishing fifth out of the seven runners in the seven furlong contest.

He had to settle for running towards the back of the pack early on under jockey Sam Hitchcott, and although running on up the inside rail in the home straight, was unable to give us the result we were looking for, finishing around six lengths behind the winner Novay Essjay.

The full race result can be seen here.

26.4.2010

RED SUEDE SHOES SWITCHES TO NEWMARKET

Red Suede Shoes will be trained at Newmarket by Jeff Pearce following the transfer from Rod Millman today.  With new Members from Norfolk joining the Club, it was essential to give as many people as possible the opportunity to feel part of the Club by having their horses reasonably accessible, and so after an amicable arrangement with former trainer Rod Millman, the four year-old has transferred to Jeff's Newmarket town centre yard.

Jeff is well known to many of the Members, and has a good record so far this year, and we hope he will be able to continue the good run of form that Red Suede Shoes showed last year.  Members will have the opportunity to visit the new trainer's stables shortly - details available soon.

10.4.2010

BILLBERRY IN CLOSE FINISH AT LINGFIELD

Backed down to 9/4 favourite this afternoon and with jockey Ryan Moore on board, Billberry

only just failed to get to the front in the final fifty yards or so after making  strong headway up the inside rail in the home straight at sunny Lingfield Park. From his wide outside draw he was settled at the rear early on and waited until the home turn to make his move, coming with a strong drive which looked as if it would be timed to perfection, but the fast finishing Copperwood had just got the better run and won by a length with our five year-old only a neck away in third place.

The full race record can be seen if you click here.

3.4.2010

RED SUEDE SHOES BACK IN TRAINING AFTER WINTER BREAK

Trainer Rod Millman has brought Red Suede Shoes back into the main yard and commenced training on the four year-old following his recent period of winter relaxation in the paddocks.

On a very wet Saturday morning, the gelding had his first gallop on the trainer's excellent all-weather surface, strutting his stuff behind a couple of Rod's experienced horses, without really breaking into a sweat at this early stage.  He will gradually increase the amount and tempo of the work over the coming month or so.

1.4.2010

ENCOURAGING THIRD PLACE FOR DREAMACHA AT FOLKESTONE

On desperately heavy ground at Folkestone this afternoon, DREAMACHA ran a creditable third place from her wide outside draw and gave the impression she has progressed steadily from her debut run.

She was no trouble whatsoever in the stalls this time around, and from the break, jockey William Carson got her into a nice position in fifth place just on the outside and behind the leading horses (there had been a late withdrawn horse reducing the field to seven so thwarting third-place pay-out by the bookmakers).  The filly kept a nice straight line as the pace quickened and she ran on well into third position, never likely to catch the experienced and well-backed Caramelita, but showing enough to suggest she will be capable of winning races.

I am sure those Members who decided to take the plunge and become shareholders in the three year-old will be encouraged by this performance and we all look forward to trainer Stuart Williams’ further placement of our filly to good effect in the forthcoming races.  Today’s full race result can be seen if you click here .

CHANDRAYAAN DISAPPOINTS AT KEMPTON

We had reason to anticipate an encouraging run from Chandrayaan following his first two performances, although his wide draw in stall number two was not helpful, but this was a case in which after his pre-race playing up (difficult to saddle and then threw jockey Richard Thomas whilst loading the stalls), he flattered to deceive early on and then finished at the back of the pack.

He was worked into a good position from the start, making progress from the wide outside to get into fifth position and on the home turn was still moving well and looking comfortable, ready to make a challenge, but as the pace quickened he was unable to show any desire to go on, and was left to chase home the rest of the field.

The full race record can be seen if you click here.

25.3.2010

CLUB ENJOYS KEMPTON EXPOSURE

Despite Billberry being unable to put icing on the cake of a fun evening at Kempton by getting into the frame in the club-sponsored handicap race (he finished sixth in a tough handicap in which the race was not run to suit him), a good-size group of Members nevertheless had an enjoyable time on yet another rainy Kempton race evening.

With around 20 Members and guests in our Private Box and another dozen frequenting the Owners & Trainers bar, this was the best turn-out for some considerable time.

With no horse in the race willing to set the pace, it was left to jockey Andrea Atzeni to push Billberry along in front for most of the race, but he was just unable to make it all and slipped to sixth place as the fast-finishing Jake The Snake and Dinner Date fought out the finish in the last half a furlong.

The full race result can be seen if you click here.

ALL SYSTEMS GO FOR CLUB'S RACE EVENING AT KEMPTON

With all eight races now sponsored, and most of the Private Box's taken up, it is all systems go for the ESSEX RACE NIGHT at Kempton on Thursday.  An added bonus to the arrangements for the evening, which will feature an on-course competition for FREE MEMBERSHIP OF THE CLUB, is the declaration of BILLBERRY to run in our own-named race at 7.50pm.

A few places are still available in the Club's Box and contact should be made with Manager Barry Root if interested.

19.3.2010

CHANDRAYAAN HAS RESPECTABLE ATTEMPT IN HANDICAP

A step up to seven furlongs was the test for Chandrayaan in his second run in our colours today, at Lingfield, and only a slightly sluggish start possibly prevented him from getting into the prize money.  He had to make up early lost ground and when the runners rounded the final bend, jockey Sam Hitchcott made a bold move up the inside rail and made good progress but was just unable to reach the leaders, with well-fancied winner Mount Juliet looking useful in what was quite a hot little handicap, and finished around three lengths back in sixth place.

The full record can be seen if you click here.  We can be optimistic that there is more to come from the three year-old based on this effort.

5.3.2010

LATE BURST JUST FAILS TO GET VICTORY FOR BILLBERRY

Billberry's brave late effort from a wide outside draw at Lingfield today was only a nose away from success when he had to settle for second place after jockey Adam Kirby had brought him from last to virtually first on the line over  the seven furlong trip.

The full race result can be seen here.

3.3.2010

SATISFACTORY FIRST RUN FOR THREE YEAR-OLD

Although not quite featuring in the prize money, Chandrayaan gave a reasonable account of himself in this his first run in our colours, and after an absence from the track of 146 days.  Drawn wide in stall two, he just seemed in need of this race as he made a respectable effort up the home straight, but finally tiring in the run to the line, just beaten for fourth place, with jockey Sam Hitchcott encouraged by this effort.

The full race record can be seen if you click here.

ESSEX RACE DAY AT KEMPTON 25TH MARCH

With all seven races at Kempton Park's "Essex Race Day" on 25th March now sponsored,

it is now a case of generating as much support as possible for the evening, and Kempton have arranged an excellent webpage dedicated to the event - click here for details.

The Club will have a Private Box for the evening, and also hope to have at least one runner performing.  Anyone wishing to purchase badges and Private Box admission (which includes a meal) should contact Barry Root immediately.

There is still plenty of space available for any businesses interested in displaying their products to the audience that evening.

BILLBERRY ONLY JUST BEATEN AT LINGFIELD

Billberry was only a whisker away from a perfect run at Lingfield today under jockey Jack Mitchell, when he had to settle for third place, with only a nose and a neck separating him from winner Prince of Thebes, who had led virtually all the way apart from a brief spell in the last 100 metres when headed by favourite Jake The Snake. With only five runners in this 0 - 85 contest over seven furlongs, our five year-old showed great determination in the home straight and only just failed to make up the ground required after the front-running eventual winner had dictated the pace early on.

The package includes a morning tour of The National Stud, pre-racing luncheon followed by an afternoon on the Rowley Mile course.  Afternoon tea completes the day, full details of which are shown by clicking on the link here.

3.2.2010 SEASONABLE BREAK FOR RED SUEDE SHOES FOLLOWING

LATEST RUN AT LINGFIELD

Trainer Rod Millman will now give Red Suede Shoes some time off following his latest effort at Lingfield Park, when he was unable to capture his form of pre-Christmas, and finished tenth in another effort over one mile.  Having been racing non-stop since last June  he gave jockey James Millman the impression that he was ready for a well-earned rest, and so our twice-winner will be brought back in the early Spring, when turf track options will also be available.

The race result from Lingfield can be seen if you click here.

SMILES ALL ROUND AT LINGFIELD AS BILLBERRY IS WINNER

The larger than normal gathering of Members at Lingfield Park today were treated to the perfect result when BILLBERRY ran a superb race to win the seven furlong handicap under another fine ride from Adam Kirby.  On board Billberry for his previous win for the Club shortly after being acquired to run in our colours, the jockey kept the horse in an ideal position throughout after a quickish start, and switched left on the home turn to come up the inside rail in fine style and to hold off the efforts of the fast finishing Waterloo Dock and Kyle.

The full race record can be seen if you click here.

ENCOURAGING DEBUT FOR DREAMACHA AT LINGFIELD

An exciting afternoon of racing for Members kicked off with a more than satisfactory first outing in the Club's colours for DREAMACHA, who although unplaced in her debut race today over 6 furlongs, gave the impression she could soon be competitive.  She broke from the stalls like a true professional, and was soon close up on the heels of the leaders, and although still a little "green" in running , completed the race well, eventually beaten only three lengths back in seventh position, with trainer Stuart Williams' other entry in the race, Posy Fossil, finishing third.

There was overall satisfaction expressed by owners Barry and Joan Root and the trainer and jockey at this performance, and the filly will surely come on well for this encouraging start. Click here for the full race result.

TRIP TO SUFFOLK BREWERY STARTS OFF 2010 EVENTS!

The Club's first social event of 2010 was a most enjoyable trip to the Adnams Brewery at Southwold in Suffolk on Sunday 17th January, where members and friends were given a conducted tour viewing all the brewing facilities, followed by some beer and wine tasting. A hearty traditional Sunday lunch in the town followed, and the day was completed with a brisk walk along the sea front and on to the pier. Sadly to the Manager's disappointment there was no bingo!

RED SUEDE SHOES UNPLACED AT KEMPTON

A snow covered and almost empty Kempton Park resembled a Christmas card as Red Suede Shoes got his 2010 campaign under way, and the recent lack of serious preparation work due to the conditions underfoot appeared to take its' effect as he finished in ninth position in the one mile handicap . He was settled towards the rear early on, making a forward run on the wide outside as the runners reached the turn, but was unable to quicken to get to the places as he went for the line.  The full race record can be seen if you click here.

He will undoubtedly have his rating adjusted for his next race, and should be better for being able to undergo a full period of normal training as the snow disappears from the training gallops.

FOURTH PLACE FOR BILBERRY AT SNOWY LINGFIELD

It was a case of "piggy in the middle" for Billberry at Lingfield Park today, when sent off as the 11/4 favourite under jockey Jamie Spencer, he had to encounter another slowly-run race and just failed to get amongst the places, running on well and finishing fourth, having been switched to the outside for the last couple of furlongs after travelling well up the rails for much of the race.  This result was sandwiched between trainer Stuart Williams' two successes on the day consisting of a third place in the 2.10pm race with The Scorching Wind and a winner with Boogie Waltzer in the last, therefore just missing out on a very successful day for the trainer.

The full result can be seen if you click here and a video of the race can be seen on the www.racingpost.co.uk website.

SNOW BRINGS ABOUT KEMPTON CANCELLATION

Red Suede Shoes was one of large number of horses unable to get to Kempton today following the huge amounts of snow that had fallen over the past day or so in the South and West, and so the race meeting was abandoned.
