09 Aug DOCTOR PARKES BEATEN A NOSTRIL AT LINGFIELD!
Following Saturday’s excellent effort to get into 4th place, only just beaten for third from the “wrong” draw at Lingfield, trainer Stuart Williams sent the ten year-old straight back to the Surrey track for this evening’s six furlong handicap, where he was only beaten by the width of a nostril in a dramatic photo-finish.
Taking the lead around a furlong out under jockey Pat Cosgrave, he appeared to be holding on for that much-deserved victory, only to find that he came out the wrong side of the separating line on the photograph, much to the shock of all concerned (perhaps apart from the winner – a 16/1 outside who had been 8th from 9 runners last time out). Even the live television commentators announced that Doctor Parkes had just held on, but it was not to be, so a 4th and 2nd over the weekend was the reward for two brave efforts.
