07 Aug Great result for AMOURICE on Saturday 5th August
Wow what an afternoon we had yesterday.
The forecast rain arrived just as racing started at Newmarket yesterday changing the going to soft. Although AMOURICE had never raced on that going before, her breeding suggested that she would cope – and she did.
Our filly looked a picture in the paddock and although she had put on a display of “exuberance” shall we say in the pre-parade, she had got it out of her system by the time she got into the main paddock. She only needed one handler and due to the number of umbrellas around, Jane wisely decided to leg our jockey Paddy up just before she left the parade ring where it was quieter.
Our jockey Paddy Bradley, although an Apprentice and claiming 5lb, had previously had a short spell riding over fences and therefore he was very used to having to sit tight and allowing a horse to find its stride.
There pair went off down to the start nicely and following her previous stalls test, our trainer Jane had asked that she be loaded first. AMOURICE walked in with no fuss and was unfazed when another horse quite close to her went down in the stalls. She broke well and although she was a little free and green to start with, Paddy soon got her into a lovely rhythm and relaxed. She was always up there and in the dip, he let her find her feet before asking her to quicken. She ran on at the end although she could not catch the winner who had the advantage of the rail to finish a well deserved second.
I think that we can put a line through her second run as this run does back up her first.
As mentioned, Jane is keen to run her at Deauville, France and there is a possible race there for her on the 30th August. However, it all depends on how AMOURICE is over the next week or so. We may have to dig out our buckets and spades for a trip to the seaside!
